Be prepared it is a long walk on the pier.  Can do a shore entry and tow gear until deep enough to descend

The lower landing on the right is the most common entry point. Can be shallow on low tide so watch giant stride.

The ladder is fairly easy and not too high for exits. First step is the hardest if you are short. Just use your fins and a big kick.

For snorkellers there is the Octopuses Garden a snorkelling trail. Just follow the signs

Rye pier is often referred to as a "pretty" dive.  It has more juvenile fish and smaller species. Once you get to know the site you will enjoy it equally as a night dive where I think it comes more alive. Sea dragons, seahorses, octopus, squid, leather jackets and very colourful pylons. Once the wind is over 15 knots it develops a strong surface chop and current.  However often when under you barely notice.  Occasionally affected by swell. Parking, which is plentiful, should cost about $2 per couple of hours.

Tambja verconis is one of the most distinctive and abundant of the southern nudibranchs. it feeds soley on the green bryozan Bugula dentata. Leather Jackets are not all so camouflaged. You can spend quite a while exploring the pylons at Rye pier. If you poke around in amongst the rocks and tyres not far from the lower landing you are bound to find a variety of life Not seen as much during the day you should find the blue ring more during the night dives.  Always wise to have your gloves on at all times.

live it..dream it..dive it!!
