The J4 is outside the heads so on days of over 20 knots the boats are not permitted outside Port Phillip Heads. The submarine sites in 26m of water and has recently been knocked about by storms. It is still in good condition but if you haven't seen it it is well worth the visit. Because of its positioning it is kept fairly silt free due to the waters washing through it.
